Research
I am interested in neuroanatomy and how brains are built, from humans and the models we use to study brain disorders.
Although the scope of my curiosity seems somedays to be endless, my main interest lies in understanding how and why female and male brains differ.
I'm particularly interested in why neurological and psychiatric conditions often affect males and females differently, and how differences in brain organization may contribute to those patterns.
My current research explores two main questions:
Are the same brain differences between males and females present across different species?
How do these brain networks relate to conditions such as autism and depression?
To explore this, I will look at brain networks in humans, macaques, and mice. By comparing patterns across species, I hope to better understand which sex differences are shared across evolution and which may be unique to humans.
Ultimately, I hope this work helps us better understand why conditions such as autism and depression affect males and females differently and eventually extend this work to other conditions.
Previous Research
As part of my MSc in Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, I investigated sex differences in rhesus macaque brain anatomy using MRI.
Field Experience
In 2025, I spent a summer in Brazil learning how marine mammal brains are collected, preserved, and studied. Working alongside researchers and conservation organizations, I learned how whale and dolphin brains are recovered, fixed, and scanned to create detailed anatomical reconstructions.
During this time, I also assisted with the rehabilitation of a rescued fur seal, gaining firsthand experience with marine mammal conservation and animal care.
The experience gave me a unique perspective on how neuroscience extends beyond the laboratory and reinforced my interest in understanding the brain across a wide range of species.
